Introduction to Polymers, Third Edition by Robert J. Young, Peter A. Lovell PDF, ePub eBook D0wnl0ad
Thoroughly updated, Introduction to Polymers, Third Edition presents the science underpinning the synthesis, characterization and properties of polymers. The material has been completely reorganized and expanded to include important new topics and provide a coherent platform for teaching and learning the fundamental aspects of contemporary polymer science.
New to the Third Edition
Part I
This first part covers newer developments in polymer synthesis, including ‘living’ radical polymerization, catalytic chain transfer and free-radical ring-opening polymerization, along with strategies for the synthesis of conducting polymers, dendrimers, hyperbranched polymers and block copolymers. Polymerization mechanisms have been made more explicit by showing electron movements.Part II
In this part, the authors have added new topics on diffusion, solution behaviour of polyelectrolytes and field-flow fractionation methods. They also greatly expand coverage of spectroscopy, including UV visible, Raman, infrared, NMR and mass spectroscopy. In addition, the Flory–Huggins theory for polymer solutions and their phase separation is treated more rigorously.Part III
A completely new, major topic in this section is multicomponent polymer systems. The book also incorporates new material on macromolecular dynamics and reptation, liquid crystalline polymers and thermal analysis. Many of the diagrams and micrographs have been updated to more clearly highlight features of polymer morphology.Part IV
The last part of the book contains major new sections on polymer composites, such as nanocomposites, and electrical properties of polymers. Other new topics include effects of chain entanglements, swelling of elastomers, polymer fibres, impact behaviour and ductile fracture. Coverage of rubber-toughening of brittle plastics has also been revised and expanded.
While this edition adds many new concepts, the philosophy of the book remains unchanged. Largely self-contained, the text fully derives most equations and cross-references topics between chapters where appropriate. Each chapter not only includes a list of further reading to help readers expand their knowledge of the subject but also provides problem sets to test understanding, particularly of numerical aspects.
From reader reviews:
Michael Durkin:
People live in this new day of lifestyle always try to and must have the time or they will get wide range of stress from both day to day life and work. So , once we ask do people have time, we will say absolutely indeed. People is human not really a huge robot. Then we inquire again, what kind of activity are there when the spare time coming to you of course your answer will certainly unlimited right. Then do you try this one, reading textbooks. It can be your alternative throughout spending your spare time, typically the book you have read is definitely Introduction to Polymers, Third Edition.
Virginia Carter:
Many people spending their time frame by playing outside with friends, fun activity with family or just watching TV the whole day. You can have new activity to spend your whole day by reading a book. Ugh, do you think reading a book really can hard because you have to accept the book everywhere? It alright you can have the e-book, delivering everywhere you want in your Smartphone. Like Introduction to Polymers, Third Edition which is getting the e-book version. So , try out this book? Let's observe.
Travis Hargrove:
Do you like reading a publication? Confuse to looking for your selected book? Or your book had been rare? Why so many issue for the book? But almost any people feel that they enjoy with regard to reading. Some people likes reading through, not only science book and also novel and Introduction to Polymers, Third Edition or perhaps others sources were given understanding for you. After you know how the fantastic a book, you feel want to read more and more. Science reserve was created for teacher or maybe students especially. Those ebooks are helping them to increase their knowledge. In other case, beside science e-book, any other book likes Introduction to Polymers, Third Edition to make your spare time much more colorful. Many types of book like here.
